Monday Morning Conversation with Lisa

Say your grace today: "Dear Lord, we thank You for this food that we are about to receive for the nourishment of our bodies for Christ's sake. Amen."

I grew up chanting this blessing over my meals and I taught my Three to say it over their meals. What meals you ask? Here's a display of the "food" I actually believed The Lord was using to nourish my body (Help me, Lord):

Fried chicken, smothered chicken, fried fish, gravy and white rice (cooked in butter), sausage sandwiches, fish sticks, pigs feet, macaroni and cheese, cabbage (cooked for hours) w/bacon grease, hamburger and fries, vienna sausages, bbq ribs, collard greens (cooked for hours - no nutrients) w/bacon grease, speaking of bacon . . . bacon and scrambled eggs (cooked in butter), fried porkchop sandwiches (slathered in mayo), tatertot casserole, frozen pot pies, frozen lasagna, Eggo buttermilk waffles, variety of sugar-laden cereals (forgive me NOW Jesus), cream cheese corn, crab boils, hell bbq anything (carcinogens = cancer. . . Help me, Father), mashed potatoes (cooked w/milk and butter), dirty rice (it was dirty alright), fried shrimp (most cholesterol laden food on this planet), fried fish, neckbones (don't ask), corndogs, hamburger helper, ramen, ham sandwiches, bologna sandwiches, I hate to admit this - but Spam - fried Spam sandwiches (*shudders*) . . .

For 41 years. 41years!!!! My heart is burdened - grieved. I ate these things - called it food and unfortunately, I blindly fed it to my babies - teaching them to ask God to bless it for nourishment. If y'all only knew how heavy my heart is right now for all those years I walked in darkness. I don't care how you see it, this was darkness. However, only those in the light are aware of darkness. Those in darkness don't know they are in darkness until light is revealed.

When I switched to a plantbased lifestyle last year, I remember being on the grocery store parking lot and I was overtaken by grief. I sobbed uncontrollably for my mother who died unnecessarily (in darkness) of a food related disease: Heart attack.

Her doctor told her she had 90% blockage. Do you know my mother loved her some fried shrimp? Fried chicken? and most of the above. Oh, she was religious though about saying grace: for the NOURISHMENT of her body. Blind. Funny thing is: She didn't get nourishment y'all, she got a heart attack that snatched her away from here at 62 years young.

Darkness.

I hope you hear me. Father, to those that have ears to hear, let them hear.

When you know better you do better and if you're going to do wrong, do wrong right. When you're feasting on your bbq today, just eat it - don't do the grace thing - don't. I'm not trying to disrespect your faith, just trying to help you be aware that there is no nourishment coming from the grill. Only carcinogens come from the grill; do your research on carcinogens - no need in asking God to bless it and let it provide nourishment - just don't. If you're going to eat it, eat it - but bless it? I give pause to that - now that I walk in the light.

The truth is you don't have to SAY grace when you're eating life. Plants provide nourishment for our bodies. The act of eating food that provides nourishment IS grace. Can't you see this?
Look at your plates today. Not just today but from here on out. What are you asking God to bless? He's not a God of foolishness. Do you say grace before you eat McDonalds? smh. Do you say grace before eating donuts and kolaches? Are you even awake? What are you doing? Saying grace - asking God to bless your food because you were raised that way? C'mon people. As long as I'm around, I'm not going to let you continue in foolishness without calling you out. It's your choice to carry on eating as you do, but now you know how foolish you sound when you're asking God to nourish your body with cholesterol and fat and sugar and bottom-dwellers and cancer-causing elements and animals that have lived in abuse to be slaughtered for you. Yes, Father, nourish them.

Wow.

Just take the blinders off already. So you're uncomfortable when someone comes after your diet. What? Don't tell me you'd rather go on the defensive instead of opening your eyes to the truth?
I'm about awareness. Do you. Just know what you are doing - and asking "God" to nourish your body with foods that offer no nutrients is out- right foolishness.

Now you know. Enjoy your day - your life. And I hope you make it past 62 without clogged arteries, high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and you're medicine-free.

Doubt it. Unless you wake the hell up.

Love y'all (and you know I do).

Lisa
