Monday Morning Conversation with Lisa

Say your grace today: "Dear Lord, we thank You for this food that we are about to receive for the nourishment of our bodies for Christ's sake. Amen."

I grew up chanting this blessing over my meals and I taught my Three to say it over their meals. What meals you ask? Here's a display of the "food" I actually believed The Lord was using to nourish my body (Help me, Lord):

Fried chicken, smothered chicken, fried fish, gravy and white rice (cooked in butter), sausage sandwiches, fish sticks, pigs feet, macaroni and cheese, cabbage (cooked for hours) w/bacon grease, hamburger and fries, vienna sausages, bbq ribs, collard greens (cooked for hours - no nutrients) w/bacon grease, speaking of bacon . . . bacon and scrambled eggs (cooked in butter), fried porkchop sandwiches (slathered in mayo), tatertot casserole, frozen pot pies, frozen lasagna, Eggo buttermilk waffles, variety of sugar-laden cereals (forgive me NOW Jesus), cream cheese corn, crab boils, hell bbq anything (carcinogens = cancer. . . Help me, Father), mashed potatoes (cooked w/milk and butter), dirty rice (it was dirty alright), fried shrimp (most cholesterol laden food on this planet), fried fish, neckbones (don't ask), corndogs, hamburger helper, ramen, ham sandwiches, bologna sandwiches, I hate to admit this - but Spam - fried Spam sandwiches (*shudders*) . . .

For 41 years. 41years!!!! My heart is burdened - grieved. I ate these things - called it food and unfortunately, I blindly fed it to my babies - teaching them to ask God to bless it for nourishment. If y'all only knew how heavy my heart is right now for all those years I walked in darkness. I don't care how you see it, this was darkness. However, only those in the light are aware of darkness. Those in darkness don't know they are in darkness until light is revealed.

When I switched to a plantbased lifestyle last year, I remember being on the grocery store parking lot and I was overtaken by grief. I sobbed uncontrollably for my mother who died unnecessarily (in darkness) of a food related disease: Heart attack.

Her doctor told her she had 90% blockage. Do you know my mother loved her some fried shrimp? Fried chicken? and most of the above. Oh, she was religious though about saying grace: for the NOURISHMENT of her body. Blind. Funny thing is: She didn't get nourishment y'all, she got a heart attack that snatched her away from here at 62 years young.

Darkness.

I hope you hear me. Father, to those that have ears to hear, let them hear.

When you know better you do better and if you're going to do wrong, do wrong right. When you're feasting on your bbq today, just eat it - don't do the grace thing - don't. I'm not trying to disrespect your faith, just trying to help you be aware that there is no nourishment coming from the grill. Only carcinogens come from the grill; do your research on carcinogens - no need in asking God to bless it and let it provide nourishment - just don't. If you're going to eat it, eat it - but bless it? I give pause to that - now that I walk in the light.

The truth is you don't have to SAY grace when you're eating life. Plants provide nourishment for our bodies. The act of eating food that provides nourishment IS grace. Can't you see this?
Look at your plates today. Not just today but from here on out. What are you asking God to bless? He's not a God of foolishness. Do you say grace before you eat McDonalds? smh. Do you say grace before eating donuts and kolaches? Are you even awake? What are you doing? Saying grace - asking God to bless your food because you were raised that way? C'mon people. As long as I'm around, I'm not going to let you continue in foolishness without calling you out. It's your choice to carry on eating as you do, but now you know how foolish you sound when you're asking God to nourish your body with cholesterol and fat and sugar and bottom-dwellers and cancer-causing elements and animals that have lived in abuse to be slaughtered for you. Yes, Father, nourish them.

Wow.

Just take the blinders off already. So you're uncomfortable when someone comes after your diet. What? Don't tell me you'd rather go on the defensive instead of opening your eyes to the truth?
I'm about awareness. Do you. Just know what you are doing - and asking "God" to nourish your body with foods that offer no nutrients is out- right foolishness.

Now you know. Enjoy your day - your life. And I hope you make it past 62 without clogged arteries, high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and you're medicine-free.

Doubt it. Unless you wake the hell up.

Love y'all (and you know I do).

Greens for Wellness & Weightloss

Eat Greens. More Raw than Cooked.

If all of your weight loss efforts have proven unsuccessful, try a high-raw green diet for 3, 7, 14, 21, or 30 days.

Of the 60lbs I've lost on my 100lbs down journey, 30lbs melted in 40 days last year when I ate a high-raw greens diet.

Here is a plan I recommend for optimal healing and detoxing - not to mention a shredded waistline.

Note: I eat my greens RAW - no dressing of any kind, however, if you choose to make your own dressings, I will include a link below.

Day 1
Breakfast: Green smoothie (2c of spinach, 1 banana, 1/2c berries - your choice)

Lunch: Bowl of raw greens (1 or 2 sliced cucumber(s), 1 handful of each of the following: broccoli, spinach, and kale,1 bell pepper, and 3 celery ribs)

Dinner: Same greens for lunch - may increase servings

Exercise: Walk for two hours on the treadmill.

4 Easy Ways to Transition to a High Raw Diet

Eating fully raw is the optimal diet - we all know this; however, not everyone can live on such an elitist diet. Most of us know that raw fruits and veggies are healthy for us, but many struggle to actually put an apple where their mouth is.

If you are considering incorporating more raw foods into your meal plans, here are four easy ways to make that transition:

#1 Breakfast
Everybody is talking about smoothies these days, so I'm sure you're not a stranger to the notion of blending your favorite leafy green with a banana and a few pieces of frozen fruit to start your day.

#2 Lunch
Yes, you can still have your peanut butter and jelly sandwich during this transition, however, instead of that accompanying bag of chips or a couple of cookies, instead, enjoy a few pieces of fresh fruit! How easy is that!

#3 Supper
Salad: Pile a boatload of raw greens and other vegetables in a big bowl topped with homemade oil-free dressing to enjoy before you feast on your normal meal.

#4 Snacks
Let's say you eat breakfast at 8AM,  lunch at 12PM, then dinner at 6PM - How about snacking on a sun-kissed piece of fruit or a vegetable of your choice at 10AM, 2PM, and 4PM? As I like to say: "Hashtag Winning" lol!

Before you know it, you will realize that it's easy to replace entire meals with raw plants.

I hope you have a smooth-ie transition into a high raw lifestyle!

You CAN do this!

7 Ways to Spend 1 Hr on the Treadmill

The benefits of working out are amazing - we all know this - but somehow, we just don't follow through with it. Perhaps, we will feel as if we are missing out on something else while working out.

Hence, I present to you - 7 Ways to spend 1 Hr on the Treadmill!

1. Jamming Playlist (of course). This is the #1 way most runners make it through the course - listening to a playlist that transcends time. After one hour of exercising, there are still a few good songs you'd like to listen to which could help you sustain your walk/run even further.

2. Reading - Books are life as far as I'm concerned. I buy books with the sole intent of cracking the pages open - where? None other than the glorious treadmill. I'm telling you - books have the power to allow you to escape. Yes, your feet are moving, and your breathing is at a pant, and your heart rate is elevated, but your Mind - oh your mind - it's in a metaphysical state of bliss. Yes, reading has that power. Read whatever interests you. Caution: It's really not a good time for required academic readings. It's time, rather to fill your mind with words that romance your soul.

3. Talking on the Phone - Stack your "To Call" list with about two to three good friends  - the chatty types - the ones that will talk more than you. Yes, they are poor listeners as they make the conversation all about them; however, are they good to help the time fly by on the treadmill. Chat on, Fittie, Chat on!

4. Skype/Facetime w/ a Walking Buddy - Realtime conversation is even better. Do you find that you aren't keeping in touch with friends or relatives as much as you'd like? Well, I couldn't think of a better way to spend an hour with two for one benefits than to connect with friends and relatives face to face while exercising. What is even better is if that friend/relative is also on his/her treadmill during this connection. How awesome! Now you have a support buddy walking right beside you, figuratively speaking. This is for light walking only. Not sure how a jogging connection would go. But even if you incorporated a walk/run regimen, you could easily run one minute then skype for the next four to five minutes. You've got to believe me: Time will pass and your one hour will be over.

5. Youtube Videos - I confess! This is how I spend most of my treadmill time. I've recently become a nutritarian, so I spend an ungodly amount of time listening to the masters of raw food and the nutritarian lifestyle (Shout out to Dr. Furhman for saving my life with this information - Love you/Bless you!). I'm usually searching for the benefits of beets or wheatgrass or spirulina or such and such. Oh, and the longer videos, which are usually annoying because they are so looonggg, make great treadmill partners. Check it out for yourself.

6. Netflix - There are a plethora of documentaries to keep you occupied, and a host of past season shows. On the treadmill is how I became acquainted with "The Braxton Family Values" - like, when would I ever have time to just find a random show on Netflix and watch it? uh, NEVER!!! I also found my new favorite treadmill pastime - "The Medium". While walking, I've watch "Vegucated" and other health documentaries. So, not only am I exercising my body, but I'm exercising my mind with provocative thoughts about the lifestyle I used to live and the one I'm transitioning to now.

7. Prayer/Meditation - Although last, it's not least by any means. Have you considered just quieting your soul. Embracing peace and tranquility on your one hour of fitness. Turn off the cell phone. Put the ipod away. No magazines or movies. Just be. Focus on your breathing and let the Light of God's presence overtake you. Enjoy a conversation with The Creator. A conversation of Thanks is my favorite. Begin where your heart leads you - I'm usually in awe about the amazing way the body functions and the healing power of raw foods - Thank you, Jesus!
Just you and God. Becoming one, becoming friends during this one hour of power.

Get moving, Friends.

The Life Enthusiast!
